1.ZOMBIE HIGHWAY 2 — ANDROID/ iOS
It’s becoming increasingly clear that killing zombies in ever inventive ways, in ever more elaborate situations, will never get boring. Roll on ‘Zombie tax return’ where you explode zombie heads with frustratingly difficult tax forms. Zombie Highway 2, in essence, is a self-driving car that is attacked by zombies that jump on to the side. Your job is to keep them off by swerving left and right and scraping up against walls and other cars. It’s addictively fun and add-ons like nitro and weapons make it, well, more fun.
The lovable rapacious capitalist Scrooge McDuck returns to our screens in mobile form in this revamped version of 1990’s classic ‘DuckTales’.This game trades high in nostalgic value – the opening theme alone is enough elicit strong, warm and fuzzy feelings in any millennial. A decent port with lots of jumping-on-heads action and wealth-hoarding, not to mention that theme tune. On-screen controls forth is type of game always present an issue, but the simplicity of movement takes away any frustration.
3.TALES FROM THE BORDERLANDS– ANDROID/ iOS
Tell Tale Games is on a bit of a run with its smash-hit point-and-click games. First with the Walking Dead, then The Wolf Among Us and now Tales From The Borderlands. Based in the Borderlands universe, players take control of characters Rhys and Fiona as they attempt to take on the evil Hyperion corporation on a desolate planet. Expect plenty of action, twists, an engaging story and choices that affect the direction of the game.
4.DUNGEON HUNTER 5– ANDROID/ iOS
FantasyRPG Dungeon Hunter 5 brings some impressive intense ‘hack and slash’ action (as the developers describe it) to mobile. There’s plenty of loot to collect,creatures to dismember and over-sized weapons to wield in this fast-paced action game to keep anyone busy.
5.DOES NOT COMMUTE– ANDROID/ iOS
Does Not Commute is a strangely addictive cross between Vantage Point and Micro Machines. Players direct individual cars to their destination – only using left and right – and pick-up time along the way to continue the game. For every car successfully directed, the game restarts from the perspective of another commuter who will have to avoid crashing into the previous character’s car.
6.MOTION TENNIS CAST– ANDROID
Motion Tennis cast is Android’s Wii Tennis. Using the Chrome cast, players connect their Android device to their TV, run the game, and play tennis, with your smart phone recording your bat swings. It’s a bit cumbersome and not the best looking, but it works and it’s innovative. Plus there’s a nice multi player option to play with distant friends.
7.PLUNDER PIRATES– ANDROID/ iOS
Plunder Pirates is a colorful and fast-paced real-time strategy that mixes Sim city with a bit of Red Alert. Players build an island and put together a pirate crew to loot other players islands. There’s plenty of action, fun and glitz here, as you’d expect from the makers of Angry Birds.
8.HALO SPARTAN BUNDLE– iOS
The Halo Spartan Bundle comes with both Halo: Spartan Assault and Halo Spartan Strike. both are great looking top-down shooters based on the Halo series that offer little more than some manic running and gunning. That’snot to say it’s not entertaining, it absolutely is. Weapon upgrades, power up grades, kill streaks and projectiles make both perfect pick-up and play mobile games.
Letterpad is a puzzle game that requires players to figure out the mystery word with the allocated letters. It quickly goes from casual fun to excruciatingly difficult before you’ve finished spelling ‘syrup’. There’s also a smart hint system that trades tips for playing a 15 second advert. Fun, simple, addictive and it work son the Apple watch.
10.LOST WITHIN– iOS
Certified terrifying. This first person survival horror combines all of the horror-genre staples; creaks, whines, children voices and murky dark corridors. Which all fits neatly into a genuinely enthralling iOS game. You’ll spend a lot of time treading carefully, looking around and running and hiding from the….‘inhabitants’.Lost Within is a survival horror title, developed in tandem with Rune and Prey creators Human Head Studios. Set within an abandoned asylum, the game has players solving puzzles and crafting weapons, meanwhile alternating between combat and stealth to get past the game’s enemies.
